چکیده

Both experimental and numerical studies of fluid motion indicate that initially localized regions of vorticity tend to evolve into isolated vortices and that these vortices then serve as organizing centers for the flow. In this paper we prove that in two dimensions localized regions of vorticity do evolve toward a vortex. More precisely we prove that any solution of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation whose initial vorticity distribution is integrable converges to an Oseen vortex, an explicit solution of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation. Under slightly stronger hypotheses we also give precise estimates on the rate of convergence toward the vortex.

Scientific Flow Field Simulation of Cruciform Missiles Through the Thin Layer Navier Stokes Equations

The thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved for two complete missile configurations on an IBM 3090-200 vectro-facility supercomputer. The conservation form of the three-dimensional equations, written in generalized coordinates, are finite differenced and solved on a body-fitted curvilinear grid system developed in conjunction with the flowfield solver. The numerical procedure is based on ...

A two-dimensional vortex condensate at high Reynolds number

We investigate solutions of the two-dimensional Navier–Stokes equation in a π × π square box with stress-free boundary conditions. The flow is steadily forced by the addition of a source sin nx sin ny to the vorticity equation; attention is restricted to even n so that the forcing has zero integral. Numerical solutions with n = 2 and 6 show that at high Reynolds numbers the solution is a domain...

A comparative study between two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations

The present study aimed to investigate two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. For this purpose, the mentioned flow equations were written in two different formulations, namely (i) velocity-pressure and (ii) vorticity-stream function formulations. Solution algorithms and boundary conditions were presented for both formulations and the efficiency of each formulation was investiga...

Comparison of The LBM With the Modified Local Crank-Nicolson Method Solution of Transient Two-Dimensional Non-Linear Burgers Equation

Burgers equation is a simplified form of the Navier-Stokes equation that represents the non-linear features of it. In this paper, the transient two-dimensional non-linear Burgers equation is solved using the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM). The results are compared with the Modified Local Crank-Nicolson method (MLCN) and exact solutions. The LBM has been emerged as a new numerical method for sol...

The Study of Kinematics and Dynamics of Oscillating Laminar Flow About a Cylinder

In this paper, the oscillating two-dimensional laminar flow about a cylinder and the oscillation of a cylinder in still water are studied. A finite volume method is applied to solve the Navier Stokes equations using SIMPLEC algorithm on a body fitted co-located O-type grid. In this study, the non-dimensional flow numbers, Keulegan-Carpenter and Stokes’ numbers are chosen over a range where diff...
